India goes for an Oscar nominated Tamil song as Chennai-based
Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri won a nomination for original score in
'Life of Pi', raising hopes after 2009 to repeat the Academy Awards. Jayashri has been
nominated in the 'Original Song' category for "Pi's Lullaby' written by herself and
composed by Mychael Danna in the film.
"I feel so happy and I think it's by god's grace and all my teacher's blessings and it is a very great opportunity to work with
director Ang Lee and Mychael Danna," she told the media here. An overwhelmed Jayashri further said that
Oscar winning musician A.R. Rahman has congratulated her on her feet. Jayashri, who is also a music composer , is a star
playback singer in Tamil cinema. She has been trained in Hindustani music and
plays Violin and 'Veena',, a plucked musical instrument.

'Life of Pi' is based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, directed by Ang Lee and stars
Indian newcomer Suraj Sharma.
The fantasy shipwreck film received 11 Oscar nods, including one for best picture.
